Fourteen days of Buddhist study

A two-week sequence of reading, reflection and gentle practice.

House of Ananda study notes · Reviewed 24 September 2026

Allow around 10–15 minutes for reading and reflection. Practice is optional and can be shorter. Repeat days, rest and work at a pace that suits you.

A gentle two-week rhythm

  1. Day 1

    Begin with a question ↗

Write why you are curious about Buddhism. Keep the question open rather than trying to choose a tradition today.

  2. Day 2

    Meet the Buddha’s story ↗

Distinguish one historical statement from one traditional narrative.

  3. Day 3

    Understand the four truths ↗

Notice one small frustration and the demand you add to it.

  4. Day 4

    See the whole path ↗

Choose one factor to notice during an ordinary conversation.

  5. Day 5

    Put care into action ↗

Make one small, specific commitment that reduces harm.

  6. Day 6

    Sit for five minutes ↗

Try the introductory exercise, or use sounds as an anchor. Stop or shorten it if needed.

  7. Day 7

    Review and rest ↗

Review the first week. What would you like to ask a teacher or community?

  8. Day 8

    Notice change ↗

Listen to a sound beginning and ending. Avoid forcing a philosophical conclusion.

  9. Day 9

    Recognise feeling tone ↗

Notice pleasant, unpleasant and neutral moments without needing to change them immediately.

  10. Day 10

    Cultivate goodwill ↗

Try the gentle phrases, then make one considerate action.

  11. Day 11

    Walk with attention ↗

Take a few comfortable steps with awareness, keeping attention on your surroundings.

  12. Day 12

    Meet different traditions ↗

Compare the Theravāda, Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna introductions. Record one difference.

  13. Day 13

    Read a source ↗

Open a short discourse and record its title, reference and translator.

  14. Day 14

    Choose a next step ↗

Decide whether to repeat the pathway, deepen a topic or attend an open beginner teaching.

At the end of two weeks

Return to your first question. What has changed, and what remains unclear? Repeat the pathway, deepen one topic or bring your questions to an open teaching.

Educational study notes, not formal religious instruction. Historical narratives, philosophical interpretations and practice methods differ across Buddhist communities. For deeper training, learn with a qualified teacher in a clearly identified tradition.
